Torticollis is a condition where a child's head tilts to one side due to tightness in the neck muscles. It's common but manageable with the right care. Here's what you need to know:


What Causes Torticollis? Torticollis can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later (acquired). It may be caused by factors like positioning in the womb, tight muscles, or even a traumatic event.

Recognizing Torticollis:

  1. Head Tilt: Notice if your child consistently tilts their head to one side.

  2. Limited Neck Movement: Check for difficulty turning the head in both directions.

Why Early Treatment Matters: Early identification and intervention are crucial for effective management. It helps prevent long-term issues and supports your child's development. We prefer to see kids in the first month when treating torticollis and see better results if treated early. 

Simple Strategies for Parents:

  1. Gentle Stretching Exercises:

    • Gently turn your baby's head to the opposite side for short periods.

    • Repeat this stretching a few times a day.

  2. Tummy Time:

    • Encourage tummy time to strengthen neck and shoulder muscles.

    • Gradually increase tummy time duration.

  3. Positioning:

    • Change the position of toys and interesting objects to encourage head movement.

    • Avoid prolonged use of car seats, swings, or carriers that limit head movement.

  4. Be Consistent:

    • Regularly practice exercises and positioning techniques.

    • Consistency is key for positive outcomes.
