Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing (LIPS) Program

Clear Sounds, Confident Readers, Happy Kids

The LIPS (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing) Program is a specialized, multisensory approach that helps children become aware of how sounds are made so speech becomes clearer and reading starts to click. Instead of just listening, kids learn to feel what their lips, tongue, and jaw are doing as they make sounds. This hands-on method builds a strong foundation for speech, spelling, and early literacy, while giving children the confidence to express themselves more clearly. At Kids In Motion, we weave parent coaching into every session so families feel equipped to support practice at home, creating lasting progress that carries beyond the therapy room.

WHO IT HELPS

  • Kids with unclear speech or sound errors

  • Kids struggling with early reading skills

  • Kids who need hands-on, multisensory support

  • Ages 4–21 needing an individualized approach

Some children who benefit from the LIPS Program show early signs of dyslexia, such as trouble rhyming, blending sounds, or matching letters with sounds. While Kids In Motion does not diagnose dyslexia, our speech-language pathologists use LIPS to strengthen the phonemic awareness and sound-letter connections that are essential for reading success. Many families find that this approach reduces frustration and builds confidence at home and in the classroom.

FAQ

Is LIPS the same as regular speech therapy?

  • Not exactly. Traditional speech therapy often works on practicing specific sounds. The LIPS Program goes deeper — it teaches kids to feel how sounds are made, giving them a strong foundation for both clearer speech and reading skills.

Do parents attend sessions?

  • Yes! We welcome parents and caregivers. Each session includes a few minutes of coaching so you know exactly how to support practice at home. This makes progress faster and more consistent.

Can LIPS help with reading and spelling?

  • Absolutely. Because kids learn to connect sounds to letters, many families notice improvements not just in speech, but also in early literacy, spelling, and confidence with schoolwork.

What ages do you see for LIPS?

  • We typically work with children ages 4 and up, but we tailor the approach to each child. Younger kids may start with readiness activities, while older children and teens benefit from targeted strategies to strengthen speech and reading.
